Anchor Wars peaks on Boston television stations.

September 13, 1982

Tom Ellis and Robin Young make their debut as co-anchors of the WNAC evening news. The two had been lured from WCVB and WBZ respectively by dramatic salary increases (for Ellis, a reported $600,000 a year) in a ratings competition with WBZ’s Liz Walker and Jack Williams and WCVB’s Chet Curtis and Natalie Jacobson that leads to much higher salaries for television anchors and reporters in Boston.
